Västra Silen – part of the Dalsland Canal

A must during your stay at Sommarvik is to explore Lake Västra Silen – a crystal-clear lake shared by Värmland and Dalsland. Its rocky shores and sparse settlements give a wonderful sense of wilderness.

The lake is well known for sport fishing with plenty of perch and pike, and even the chance of catching salmon or trout. At Sommarvik you can fish freely from the shore or jetty; otherwise, a fishing license is required.

A paddling trip here is perfect for the whole family – whether you want a short tour around the nearby islands or a longer adventure heading south. Along the lake you’ll find rest areas, and for overnight stays a Nature Conservation Card is required, available at the reception.

Cycling and hiking trails

There are plenty of cycling and hiking trails in the area. Not far from Sommarvik, the illuminated tracks offer several routes of 10, 16, and 22 km, while Orrfjället features beautiful forest paths of varying lengths. We also warmly recommend a visit to the Glaskogen Nature Reserve – a 28,000-hectare wilderness area with winding waterways, large and small lakes, vast forests, and rich wildlife. Here you will find canoe routes, bathing spots, fishing waters, overnight cabins, and shelters with fireplaces.
