Looking for some good skiing during the winter in northern Sweden? In beautiful Norrland you have several winter activities to experience. Bring your skis, sledge or your snowboard when you’re on your trip, here are several slopes that suits the entire family, both adults and children.
Pet reindeer & explore Sami history
The area where Arcus is located is called Karlsvik, and it was formerly a Sami area from the 18th century until the early 20th century. When the steelworks were later built, the Sami stopped bringing their reindeer for winter work. But now, reindeer have returned to Karlsvik, and we are overjoyed and proud that Arcus is now the only campsite in Sweden where reindeer actually live!
As a guest or visitor, you have the opportunity to enjoy a truly unique experience. Together with Dálvvás, you can pet reindeer, take a walk with a reindeer, or why not learn how to throw a lasso? You can also step into the Lávvu (Sami tent) and engage in exciting conversations about Sami history, listen to beautiful Joik, and enjoy a Sami specialty by the fire.
Available for booking throughout the winter until March or April, depending on the weather. The activities can be easily booked through our reception or by contacting us via email/phone.

Cross-country skiing
Experience the magic of winter on our natural snow trail! When the campsite goes into winter rest, it transforms into a fantastic skiing paradise where everyone can enjoy the best winter exercise. Our cross-country trail is maintained by passionate enthusiasts who are dedicated to creating the best skiing experience. Bring the kids, grandparents, or friends and enjoy a wonderful day in the snow!
Rent snowshoes
New! Now you can rent snowshoes from us and experience the magical glittering snow. Take a walk along the river or through the forest and enjoy our unique nature. A perfect winter activity for families, couples, or friends!
Tips for skiers
Ormbergsbacken
Ormbergsbacken is a small technical and family-friendly slope with a button lift. The slope features a big jump and several different rails. There is also a sledding hill for those who do not feel up to skiing this season or for younger children. The ski area has several barbecue and rest areas that the municipality supplies with firewood, so be sure to pack a snack – maybe some marshmallows and sausages.
Måttsundbacken
Just outside Luleå, very close to the coast, lies Måttsundbacken. Here you will find two drag lifts leading to three slopes. You can choose an easier slope if you are a beginner or take on the steeper one if you are a more advanced skier. Måttsund also has a children's slope with a conveyor belt lift, so the whole family can enjoy a day on the slopes. The facility has a restaurant, and there is also a warming hut if you have packed a nice snack.
Storklinten
Storklinten is about an hour's drive from our campsite and is a slightly larger facility beyond Boden. Here, there are 18 slopes and five lifts. There are pistes with different difficulty levels – maybe you dare to try the black slope, or would you rather stick to the blue and green ones? The facility also has a sledding hill, cross-country ski trails, and the option to go snowmobiling. A restaurant is located at the bottom of the slope.
