From First Camp Solvik–Kungshamn, you can reach several sections of the Soteleden Trail and Ramsvikslandet in just a few minutes – perfect for anyone wanting to combine camping life with hiking. Remember to bring sturdy shoes, water and weather-appropriate clothing, as the terrain can change quickly along the trail. Below you’ll find our top tips for hikes in the area.

Ramsvikslandet – Discover the Kingdom of Cliffs

You’ll reach Ramsvikslandet by crossing the bridge over the Sotekanalen, about 3.5 km from the campsite in Solvik. Here, you can explore the beautiful Bohuslän coastline in one of the region’s most visited nature reserves. Enjoy stunning views where the salty sea splashes against the rocks, and discover a unique landscape shaped by wind and waves. You’ll walk across smooth, polished cliffs, through heathlands and across open meadows. Ramsvikslandet is also known as the “Kingdom of Cliffs” thanks to its dramatic rock formations. There are several attractions here that are well worth a visit.

The Sotekanalen

The Sotekanalen was completed in 1935 and is today mainly used by leisure boats. The canal is a 4.8 km long man-made waterway running through Ramsvikslandet, offering a scenic and sheltered route for anyone travelling along it.

Tryggö and King Tryggve’s Grave

A must-visit is the beautiful island of Tryggö, located at the entrance to the Sotekanalen. The landscape is characterised by flowers and lush valleys, and for those who want to swim, there is a lovely sandy beach between Ramsvik and Tryggö. At the top of the island stands an impressive stone cairn – a burial mound said to belong to King Tryggve.

Mor Lena’s Cottage

Mor Lena’s Cottage, also known as Pascha’s Cottage, was built in the 18th century. The cottage is situated on a slope facing the Sotekanalen, about 600 metres north of the bridge. In the 19th century, a widow lived here with her children. The cottage is built from fieldstone, and it is said that Mor Lena lived here with her eight children. Take a look inside and imagine how they all managed to fit!

The Soteleden Trail

Pack your hiking boots for your camping holiday and head out to explore the Soteleden Trail! This hiking route stretches across some of the most beautiful coastal landscapes around Smögen, from Bovallstrand in the north to Kungshamn/Smögen. With roughly 60 km of varied terrain – from forests and rocky plateaus to coastal sections – this is a truly memorable nature experience. The trail also leads inland to Nordens Ark and Tossene, and includes the Ramsvik and Bua Hed nature reserves.

Stages of the Soteleden Trail

The Soteleden consists of around 20 different stages and offers plenty of viewpoints, ancient remains, shelters and overnight cabins along the way. We recommend bringing a map – or several, depending on where you plan to hike. Keep in mind that the terrain changes a lot over the roughly 60 kilometres. One moment you’ll be overlooking the sea and salt-sprayed cliffs, and the next you’ll be walking through forests, wetlands and heather moorland.

One of the stages loops around Kungshamn, heading up via Väjern near First Camp Solvik–Kungshamn, continuing to the opposite side of the Örnefjord and then back again. Current maps can be found in the Sotenäs Municipality Map Portal, where you can also view stages, route suggestions and your current position.
