Paddling – suggestions for trips on the Telemark Canal
The Telemark Canal comprises a variety of large bodies of water and narrow canals with locks. Beginners and experienced paddlers alike can enjoy great experiences. The canal is ideal for day trips and trips with one or more overnight stays. The stretch between Lunde lock and Hogga lock is especially easy to paddle, and visitors can make excursions along Skoeelva, which is also an excellent day trip for beginners. See below for descriptions of various trips. If you rent equipment from us, you can book transport to/from us by car. You can also reach us by canal boat. See link for rental info. Please contact us if you would like to rent equipment, or for more information about tour options.
Cycling in Telemark offers a great variety of natural scenery and many fine experiences to enjoy
National Cycle Route 2 “Kanalruta” passes through the centre of Lunde, just a few hundred metres from Telemark Kanalcamping. There are several signposted tours close by. Cycle tours mainly follow sparsely trafficked gravel and asphalt roads. Some sections are solely for pedestrian and cycle traffic. Let us help you with tour suggestions – there is a choice of cycle routes posted outside reception. There are maps and info for sale in reception.
If you like hiking, Lunde is an excellent place to start
There are many signposted light or moderately challenging summit trails, as well as great hiking opportunities along roads and partly by trails in the vicinity of the campsite. If you take your car or bicycle a little further away from the campsite, there is a variety of forest roads with vehicle barriers to choose from, where you can cycle or walk without almost any traffic. We have made our own Lunde touring map showing some of the excursion options in the vicinity. Visitors can collect one upon arrival at the campsite. You can also download the map using the link below. If you would like more information about individual tours or see other trips in the Central Telemark region or Lifjell, which is a mountain region only 30 min drive from the campsite, click the visitbø link on the right.
Trout, pike, tench, perch and whitefish can be fished year-round in the Telemark Canal. There are mainly pike below Kjeldal lock, and above it, the most common fish is trout. Except for Bandakvann, fishing is free in the Telemark Canal. If you wish to fish in Bandakvann or elsewhere around the canal, you must have a fishing license.
Norsjø Golfpark is idyllically located with fantastic views across Norsjø lake from the course. Visit the golf club’s own website for further information. The golf course is around 16 km from the centre of Lunde.
