The Wooden Town of Hjo
On the shores of Lake Vättern, Hjo awaits with its charming small-town atmosphere, picturesque wooden houses and beautiful surroundings that are perfect for exploring on foot. Lake Hornborga
Bring your binoculars and discover one of Sweden’s best-known birdwatching lakes. Lake Hornborga is, of course, famous for the thousands of cranes that gather here in spring, but the nature reserve is well worth a day trip throughout much of the year, with hiking trails, birdwatching towers and hides. Ettak streams
Follow the rushing waters of the River Tidan through Ettaks Strömmar Nature Reserve. Here, an almost six-kilometre stretch of largely untouched river winds its way through forests and pastures. Younger visitors can enjoy the Children’s Museum, with plenty of opportunities for play and creativity. A great day out for the whole family – especially on a rainy day.

Kungslena
Take a day trip to historic Kungslena, the site of the famous Battle of Lena in 1208. The unusual medieval church with its three distinctive towers is the village’s main landmark, while the surrounding area also offers hiking trails, a gravestone museum and the ruins of Lena Castle.

Baltak Streams
For fishing enthusiasts, Baltak is another exciting destination in the area. Just south of Tidaholm, Baltak fish farm lies beside the River Tidan, where stream fishing has attracted fly fishers since the 1970s. It’s a natural choice for anyone looking to discover even more of the region’s strong sport-fishing tradition.
