Best camping on the West Coast
No summer is complete without a visit to the west coast. There is something special about the natural beauty of the western coastline. That feeling of diving into the sea from the rocky shore, or wading out into the shallow waters of one of the many long sandy beaches. Camping on the west coast is superb! West coast culinary culture is in a class of its own, and fresh shellfish is a must (what could be better?). From Strömstad in the north to Laholm in the south, this fantastic coastline is brimming with campgrounds to suit all tastes. The question is, where will you go next?
We have listed the eight most beautiful campgrounds along the west coast – from north to south:
Strömstad has the saltiest water in the west coast, splendid coastal scenery and a fantastic archipelago, including the idyllic Koster Islands, within easy reach. First Camp City-Strömstad is a tranquil and scenic campground where you can completely unwind. The site is located near the sea and the city centre, for a comfortable and relaxing holiday.
Grebbestad is one of Bohuslän’s most popular seaside resorts – and for good reason. It includes First Camp Edsvik-Grebbestad. This wonderful family campground has its very own beach, just around the corner from a shore of diving rocks. In high season, the campground offers a broad range of activities, six days a week. Downtown Grebbestad is just a few minutes from the campground. It boasts a popular boardwalk with a variety of restaurants brimming with fresh fish, shrimp, oysters – well, you get the idea.
If you want to camp like royalty, this is the destination for you. This campground offers stunning sea views in the beautiful Bohuslän province. First Camp Solvik-Kungshamn has everything you need for a wonderful camping holiday. Wake up to the aroma of freshly baked bread, take a dip in the family-friendly sea pool (700 m from the campground), or challenge the family to a round of miniature golf. During high season there is also entertainment, kids’ club and fitness activities several times a week. Downtown Kungshamn is within walking distance from the campground. Smögenbryggan boardwalk, with its tempting array of restaurants, shops, cafés and nightlife is also within easy reach.
We have now driven through Gothenburg, with its great restaurants and local beer, and will soon reach the coastal town of Varberg in north Halland. Here you’ll find the splendid First Camp Kärradal-Varberg, a true gem. This is a first-rate campground, located just 200 metres from a sandy beach that stretches out along the Kattegat Sea. How about challenging your family, spouse or friends in a round of boules or miniature golf? The site offers a packed activity schedule including fitness activities, entertainment and kids’ club activities in high season.
Just south of Varberg, the charming campground First Camp Björkäng-Varberg has the perfect location for family camping. Here is everything you need for creating lasting holiday memories. Spend the day enjoying the sun, or choose between the campground’s broad range of activities. Should you crave a more urban vibe, Varberg is just a short distance away by bus.
Tylösand – a well-known name both in Sweden and abroad. And it is easy to understand why. Tylösand has one of the best beaches in Sweden, four kilometres long, as well as a world class golf course, beautiful nature, and of course First Camp Tylösand-Halmstad! The destination that has it all, and a bit more, is just a short walk from the beach. There are plenty of activities for both kids and adults in the campground area. Activities include adventure golf, a football field, playgrounds, and a bistro, the perfect place for a refreshing drink and a bite to eat. Or perhaps some dancing at the famous After Beach at Solgården.
For guests who prefer peaceful and family-friendly camping, close to Tylösand’s famous beach. At First Camp Karlstorp-Halmstad you can relax, enjoy a swim, go fishing, or try windsurfing if weather permits. Halmstad is a paradise for water sports. Interested in a day trip? Try Gothenburg and the Liseberg Amusement Park. After Beach at Solgården on a sunny afternoon is also a good option.
It’s easy to see why visitors just can’t get enough of Halmstad. Guests are always well cared for at First Camp Hagön-Halmstad. This destination is nestled in lush greenery, with the glittering Kattegat Sea as its nearest neighbour. It is simply a gorgeous place for a holiday, where the whole family can enjoy all that the Swedish summer has to offer. In high season, there is also entertainment, kids’ club activities and fitness activities.
